Chapter one
In the beginning of the manga it starts off in Pallet Town consisted of three children who want to catch a Nidorino, but are not able to for some reason. Red steps in and chuckles, stating to the children that you cannot catch a Pokemon without weaking it.Red then demonstrates by then taking out his Poliwhirl and trying to weaken the Nidorino with water gun, proceeding on to catching it with a Pokeball. After catching the Nidorino, Red boasts about himself and how good of a trainer he is and that everyone in the town should know him.
He then tells the children that Pokemon are strange creatures that are from forests and lakes. Afterword's, the children ask Red if he had known or seen Professor Oak, followed by the children telling Red that they'll be learning how to catch Pokemon from him. Red tells the children not to learn from "the old nut" and that they are better off learning from him. One of the children then asks if he had heard of Oak's grandson who is supposedly the greatest of trainers. Red tells the child that he can take both of them down. The children leave Red giving him a farewell. Red then heads off, thinking about what the children had told him about Professor Oak, while then bumping into a Team Rocket member. The Team Rocket member tells Red to "watch it" and proceeds on hunting for a specific Pokemon. Red discovers that the Team Rocket members have Pokeballs while then over hearing the members talking about a "Phantom Pokemon". Afterword's the Team Rocket Member order all the other members to head out to the "West Forest" supposedly the west side of the Viridian Forest, but I'm not quite sure. Red then runs off to the forest and tries finding the Phantom Pokemon later finding.....Blue! Red examines Blue battling the Phantom Pokemon "Mew". Blue sends out his Charmander to attack the Mew while Ash ponders at how much of a battle this is. Blue returns his Charmander; Red pops out of the grass and asks Blue why he had quit if he was so close to catching Mew. Red steps in with his Poliwhirl and tries to attack the Mew. While not knowing what kind of strength Mew had, Red loses the battle with his Poliwhirl knocked-out and the Mew escaping from battle. Blue tells Red that he has no idea of what he has done, and that he doesn't know the concept of limitations and not to exceed them during battle. Blue leaves, while Red tries to wake up his Poliwhirl. Team Rocket members show up while then discovering that Red had made the Mew escape from the forest. One of the members tells him not to waste his time beating up the child and they continue off looking for the mew. Afterword's, while walking around Pallet town, Red discovers Oaks research centers and enters it cautiously. End of chapter.
